NATION OF IMMIGRANTS

As an immigrant myself (I moved to the US from Belgium in 2016) and in light of recent events, I wanted to highlight several people who immigrated to the United States from all over the world and who changed this nation for the better. I decided to sell prints from the series, and to donate all of the revenues to two non-profits: United We Dream, as well as the American Immigration Council.

Immigration is an integral part of U.S history and culture and was so since its very foundation. I think that it is of the upmost importance that we acknowledge and celebrate the past and present social, economical and cultural contributions of the millions of immigrants who built a new life in this country for themselves and their families. I always associated America with its multicultural population and spirit, and to me that is one of its most irreplaceable and valuable resource. As a nation of immigrants and descendants of immigrants, let’s make sure that it stays a valued source of pride and cultural wealth.
I chose to represent Anousheh Ansari (Iranian-American astronaut), Albert Einstein (German-American physicist), Rita Moreno (Puerto-Rican actress), Lupita Nyong’O (Kenyan-Mexican
actress), I.M.Pei (Chinese-American architect), Oscar de La Renta (Dominican-American fashion designer), Audrey Hepburn (British actress) and Lea Salonga (Filipina singer and actress).
