SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE

This social campaign aims to higlight the many working women This campaign aims to celebrate the role of women during the pandemic, from the essential worker to the stay-at-home mom, as well as highlight how the pandemic disproportionately harmed women’s progress.

My design project is directly inspiredby Alexandr Rodchenko’s poster, “Lengiz. Books on all the branches of knowledge,”
from 1924. Rodchenko was a suprematist designer. After the Russian revolution, suprematists strived to imagine a new utopian future through a radically different abstract style. By displaying a revolutionary woman worker using a revolutionary graphic style, Rodchenko was able to promote a new vision and ideal for the future, where women are an active part of the workforce, and are encouraged to stay literate and educated.

I wanted to re-imagine this poster under a more modern context, post-pandemic. Today, and similarly to post-revolution USSR, a new economy and society is slowly being re-built.This campaign aims to celebrate the role of women during the pandemic from the essential worker to the stay-at-home mom, as well as highlight how the pandemic disproportionatelyharmed women’s progress. Going forward, we need to influence systems and structures to provide women with the financial and social support / resources they need in order to pursue their goals, whether that be their careers, their education, or the care of their families.
